What if the people installing the product could get more from the value they create?
7 October 2026

A good plumber or installer does far more than fit a product.
They are the person standing on the roof in the heat. The person explaining the system to the customer. The person whose workmanship determines whether that customer recommends the product to their neighbour. And often, the person who brings the next customer back to the brand.
So perhaps it is time we asked a different question:
Are installers getting enough value from the value they create?
South Africa’s construction industry generated R605.6 billion in income in 2024 and employed more than 539,000 people, according to Statistics South Africa. But the picture for workers remains challenging.
By March 2026, construction employment was down 3% year-on-year. At the same time, building installation and building completion were among the areas contributing to the sector’s quarterly employment growth.
That tells us something important: “The people physically making buildings, systems and products work remain critical, even when the broader industry is under pressure.” And yet, the relationship between a manufacturer and an installer is often reduced to one transaction:
Product sold. Job done. Move on.
We think there is an opportunity to build something better.
What if installing a product well, registering it properly, following the correct process and continuing to choose that brand actually created additional value for the installer? Not just discounts and not just another sales promotion.
Real recognition for the work already being done.
Because installers are not simply another link in the supply chain. They are an extension of the brand. They influence what gets specified. They influence what gets installed. They influence what the homeowner trusts. And they influence what gets installed again. At Apollo, we have been thinking seriously about what a stronger relationship with the installer community could look like.
Something simple, practical, that recognises the installation itself. Because if someone is helping you put your product on a roof, into a home and ultimately into a customer’s everyday life, perhaps there should be a little more in it for them too.
We’re exploring what that could look like.
And if you’re a plumber, installer or contractor, we’d genuinely like to know:
What would make you feel more recognised by the brands you work with?
