Skills for a Brighter Tomorrow: Inside Apollo’s Training at Olifantsfontein

At Apollo Solar Technology, we believe that real impact happens when knowledge is shared, skills are developed, and future professionals are empowered. That’s exactly what unfolded over two visits to the Olifantsfontein Trade Test School, where our team had the privilege of training aspiring plumbers in the installation and workings of solar geyser systems.

In collaboration with IOPSA and Advanced Valves, our first session introduced students to the fundamentals of solar water heating. From understanding system components to the practical steps involved in installation, the training provided a solid foundation for students keen to explore renewable energy solutions in their trade. The response from learners was enthusiastic—they asked questions, got hands-on, and were genuinely excited about what solar could mean for their careers and the communities they serve.

Encouraged by the success and feedback from the initial session, we returned for a second round of training on Friday, 23 May. This time, the focus was on refining practical skills, digging deeper into the technical aspects, and ensuring that learners walked away with not just knowledge but confidence. Seeing the same faces return, ready to learn more and apply what they’d already picked up, was incredibly rewarding for our team.

What made this initiative even more meaningful was the shared commitment from all partners involved. From the support of Advanced Valves, Plumbing Africa, IOPSA and the facilities at OTT, to the engaged attitude of the learners, it was a reminder of what’s possible when industry and education come together.

These sessions weren’t just about solar geysers—they were about opportunity, exposure, and future-proofing the skills of the next generation of plumbers in South Africa. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, so too must the expertise of those installing and maintaining them.

And if the dedication shown by these students is anything to go by, the future of the plumbing industry is in excellent hands.
